Strong middle managers are undoubtedly central to organizational success! They contribute 48% higher profit (Gallup) and 21 times higher shareholder returns (McKinsey) than weak or even average managers. However, these strong managers are extremely rare - only 1 in 10 middle managers actually have the skills needed to do their jobs! To amplify this deficit, middle managers have the highest rates of anxiety and depression (Columbia University) and only 35% of them are engaged (Gallup).
